Well there’s been plenty of rain, and while it’s not exactly felt like Summer, the garden seems to be enjoying it.
The potatoes we planted in our half barrel have been doing great – this first photo shows them after just a couple of weeks. The amount they’ve grown is definitely directly related to the amount they drink. They’re very thirsty!

We planted some Lobelia with them, to stop our cats digging up the nice, fresh, inviting soil, but had to take it out and find space for it in the border by this stage where it should settle in amongst the Cosmos, Snapdragons, Sweet Peas and Violas.

About five weeks on they’ve started to flower, and I have to say I’ve never realised how pretty the flowers are. You can barely even see the barrel below the foliage now, so I’m hoping that’s a sign of a good crop to come.

For a bit of variety we’ve planted up a pink selection in one our set of 3 planters. We’ve got a couple of Dahlias, Geraniums, Fuschias (you can never have too many Fuschias in my opinion) and Osteospermum or Cape Daisy, all beautiful shades and shapes.

This last one isn’t a pot or a barrel, but it’s coming on nicely, so I thought I’d show you one of our hanging baskets. Last year they were ruined by whitefly and every flower that opened was discoloured and looked awful, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on them and hopefully not have the same problem this year.
